Haath, Munh Aur Bum,
Bimari Hogi Kum
Haath, Munh Aur Bum - sounds gibberish right? Not quite. These magical words stand for three simple and healthy habits that can go a long way in preventing illness. Now, kids and Swachh Aadats are paving the way for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Haath, Munh Aur Bum comes at a time when India faces severe challenges in health, hygiene and sanitation. Approximately 792 million Indians live without improved sanitation, of which some 597 million people continue to practice open defecation. Contributing further to this problem, around 97 million Indians do not have access to an improved source of drinking water.
Children are those most prone to contracting diseases. Every year, more than 6 million children die before they reach the age of five, many due to preventable infections. Over 40% of these deaths occur in the neo-natal period, when children are most vulnerable. Hygiene, particularly handwashing with soap, is one of the most cost-effective ways for families to prevent many of these deaths.
At Unilever, we believe every child deserves the chance for a bright future. Adopting 3 simple good habits can go a long way in making Swachh Bharat a reality:
Haath - wash your hands with soap.
Munh – drink purified water.
Bum – use a toilet and keep it clean.
Haath, Munh Aur Bum is a well-timed shout-out to amplify the truth about those unhygienic habits that are prevalent in society. Turns out, if it were left to the kids, hygiene advice could be made way more fun! In the film “Haath, Munh Aur Bum” children show everyone how the mantra of ‘Haath, Munh Aur Bum’ can make us change our views on how easy it is to remain healthy and illness free. The film (above) propagates the adoption of three Swachh Aadats through children, who have become agents of change.
The adoption of the three Swachh Aadat will go a long way in accomplishing the end goal of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – a clean and illness-free nation. Unless we change and adopt Swachh Aadat, Swachh Bharat will not be a reality. Haath, Munh Aur Bum tells you how to do it.
